Having been led, as we believe, by the spirit of God, and having been born again by grace
through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having
been baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do
now in the presence of God and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant
with one another, as The Anchor Missionary Baptist Church, as one body in Christ.
Our purpose, as revealed by the Bible, is to glorify God by exalting the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ, the head and bridegroom of this body, making Him the essence of our fellowship,
worship, and ministry. We will therefore strive to be Christ-focused so that everything
we do as a Church may flow from our love and devotion to Him and may advance His kingdom
on earth.
We pledge therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to grow and mature in our personal walk
with God so that we might fulfill this Covenant and the principles of God’s Word as members
of this Church. We will strive to walk together in Christian love; to advance this Church, in
knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its
worship, discipline, and doctrines; to observe the Church ordinances of Baptism and the
Lord’s Supper as authorized by our local Church; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the
support of the ministry, the expenses of the Church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of
the gospel through all nations.
We will also endeavor to maintain family and personal devotions; to be faithful and loving to
our spouse; to take responsibility for the religious education of our children; to seek the salvation
of our family, friends, and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to preserve
the sanctity of life; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our activities, and Christ-like in
our behavior.
We will strive to avoid worldly behaviors that destroy our influence as ambassadors of
Christ, dominate our lives, and hinder our efforts to keep our bodies under subjection to
Christ.
We will strive to preserve the spiritual unity of this body in Christ; to provoke one another to
godliness; to tenderly bear with one another’s weaknesses, failings and infirmities, not divulging
them to anyone unless required by church rule and scriptures; to not allow one another
to be mired in sin by warning one another in meekness and love; to confess and repent
of our sins toward God and others; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in
sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in
speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the
rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.
We moreover pledge that when we remove ourselves from this place, we will as soon as
possible unite with some other Church, of like faith and order, where we can carry out the
spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
